This great image from Black and WTF speaks a lot of truth. We may not actually believe that there is a lady switchboard operator inside our PC, but many of us relate to the PC as a living things, and blame them for real (and imaginary) character faults.
In many cultures parts of nature is animated and worshipped or feared. In our machine culture its not uncommon that we animate the machines we relate to on a daily basis, and for some of us this also includes the PC:s, laptops and other web machines.
My machines all have names, and they are females. What gender is your PC?
HT Jack Loftus at Gizmodo,
Of course our technology should have names...and mine do...I have 3 Macs...the baby is Daniel, named after Daniel Craig because like his Bond character my Daniel is rugged, amusing and very sexy! Then there is Big Daniel...yes, the MacBook Pro...and of course the new addition to the family, a new MacBook Pro adopted just scant weeks ago, is Big Boy Daniel. Don't even get me started on the iPhone or my various iPods!
ReplyDeleteAnd cars...well the last one I had in the UK several years ago was Sunflower...a stunningly yellow Seat turbo estate that used to carry me, my bikes, kayak, surfing and walking gear around - she was lovely.
And my boat of many years ago...Ella.
The tech gear is male, so it would seem, and kit with wheels or sails is female ;-)
