The rigid airship Graf Zeppelin flew for the first time on September 18, 1928 and continued to fly uninterrupted for 9 years, covering more than a million miles during 590 flights and 144 ocean crossings, between Europe and the US, and between Europe and South America.
In 1929 she made a spectacular 21 day round-the-world flight with start and finish at Lakehurst NAS (NJ) with stops at Friedrichshafen, Tokyo and Los Angeles.
Despite her perfect flight record she was taken out of service not long after the 1937 Hindenburg disaster.
